1. Lower the set temperature of your electric heaters. You can lower the temperature of your thermostats by a few degrees during the reduction phase, which is from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. for a morning challenge and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an evening challenge.
2. Let Hilo control your water heater! Don’t touch the controller during a challenge. If power is restored to a water heater controller during a challenge, it is automatically excluded from that challenge.
3. If you have a home charger, do not charge your electric car. Electric car charging consumes a lot of energy, so it’s best to charge your electric vehicle outside of challenge hours.
4. Avoid using household appliances. When calculating your rewards, we take into account your home’s total energy consumption during a challenge. So wait until after the challenge to bake up that batch of muffins! Same goes for doing the laundry or running the dishwasher.
