During peak periods when Hilo challenges are held, Hilo customers who have agreed to participate will have the electricity to their water heaters cut automatically and remotely, so long as Quebec’s public health regulations allow it. The large quantity of water left in the heater will remain hot for several hours, meaning comfort levels will be unaffected. Once the challenge has ended, the water heater will be turned back on and will recommence normal operations.
