Can I stop a scene that’s in progress?

Unfortunately, no. Since scenes group together various devices and there’s no default configuration for them all, once a scene is in progress, it can’t be stopped.

Consider the following example:

You have a scene named Hockey Night, which is scheduled for 8:00 pm on Wednesday nights. It groups together three devices, with the following instructions:

  • TV smart plug > Turn on
  • Living room smart thermostat > Set to 18 °C
  • Living room smart dimmer > Set to 20% brightness

But what if, one Wednesday night, there’s no hockey game on TV? What would you want to change about this scene? Would you still want to watch TV? Still want the temperature to be set to 18 °C? Would you want the living room light to stay on, and if so, still at 20% brightness? Or would you prefer a different brightness?

As you can see, there are many possible options – and not just a single scenario that would be considered the “opposite” of this scene’s settings. That’s why you can’t just stop a scene with the press of a button; you have to select a new setting for each of the devices in the scene.
